Woman accused of killing child servant sent on physical remand

The East district judicial magistrate on Saturday handed over, Shirin Asad, the woman accused of killing a domestic help to police on physical remand.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal police got her five-day custody to thoroughly interrogate her in the dreaded remand room.

The case regarding the death of a 12-year-old child serving as a domestic help named Rafiq due to severe torture was heard before the court of judicial magistrate west in the Karachi City Courts.

The magistrate also granted the request for a post-mortem of the victim to confirm the cause of death as per the medico-legal procedure.

The deceased's father, Qabool Manthar Ali, through his lawyer requested the court that it is necessary to seize all the CCTV footages of the accused's house, while geo-fencing should be carried out along with the collection of DNA samples.

The suspect, Shirin Asad, had told the police the child servant had died after falling off a rickshaw.

The counsel for the complainant said that the deceased child's brother, still unconscious at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), was also tortured by the accused woman.

He said that the investigations should also be conducted on the broker, who employs underage domestic labourers in houses.

"What do you do, and how many children do you have?" the judge asked the accused. She replied, I am a housewife and have two kids. \

On this, the judge remarked that there were three servants working for two children.
