Govt, ADB agree to increase EV buses

KARACHI:

The Sindh government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) agreed to collaborate on the procurement of another fleet of electrical vehicles to add to the existing fleet of the Peoples Bus Service operating in Karachi. The decision was taken in a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the ADB delegation led its country director, Yong Ye.

Murad said that the bus service had made a drastic difference in the experience of commuters while calling for the addition of more buses till the completion of the bus rapid transit (BRT) system. The ADB country assured Murad of support on the proposal. The meeting noted that a 26.6km BRT Red Line project from Malir Halt to Numaish Corridor had been launched for Rs78.38 billion.

The Sindh Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project of $220 million ($AADB share $200 million and Sindh govt $20m) was being launched to reconstruct provincial and district roads. The CM and the visiting delegation also discussed the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project worth $82.5 million.
