CTD arrests ‘ISIS-linked commander’ from Korangi
The Counter-Terrorism Department said on Wednesday that they had arrested a Daesh-linked militant commander involved in raising funds from Karachi for militants based in Afghansitan.
The CTD said it conducted a raid in the Korangi Industrial Area following a tip and arrested an Afghan national identified as Abdul Malik. They also seized a 30-bore pistol and the suspect’s cell phone, which has been sent for forensic analysis.
The CTD said that the suspect was a leading commander of the outlawed Daesh group, also known as ISIS and IS.
CTD officials said that the suspect revealed during interrogation that he had been associated with the Mullah Abdul Manan group of ISIS since 2011.
Officials said the suspect had lived in Karachi for a long time. He would often collect donations from Karachi during Ramazan and send the money to the militant group in Afghanistan. The suspect confessed to laundering laundered millions of rupees to Afghanistan, CTD said.
