Strict monitoring of city entry points urged

IGP orders support to teams deployed in the field for targeted operations against criminals through Safe City cameras

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar on Monday called for utilising the Safe City Authority cameras for monitoring the crime-hit areas in the city to help provide all possible support to the teams deployed in the field for targeted operations against criminals.

During a visit to the authority, he said that in view of the recent wave of terrorism, special attention should be paid to the monitoring of the entry and exit routes of the city and sensitive installations, especially important roads, offices, educational institutions and worship places.

He said the Safe City monitoring officers should ensure effective surveillance and follow up after informing the patrolling force about any incident.

The IGP stressed that street crimes, terror threats and traffic accidents could be prevented and timely police response ensured through better coordination.

Dr Anwar said every possible support and technical assistance should be provided to the investigating officers from the recorded digital evidence from the cameras so that the cases could be pursued to the logical conclusion as soon as possible and the criminals could be punished.

He said immediate action should be taken with the help of the cameras against the drivers violating traffic rules.
