Operation on street crime in the offing, says Wahab

Law department has prepared a draft legislation in this regard

KARACHI:

Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Monday that the provincial cabinet has approved a targeted operation to bring street crime under control in Karachi.

Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting, he said that legislation was in the offing that would nip the evil of street crime in the bud. "The law department has prepared a draft in this regard," he said.

The cabinet has also approved the Safe City Authority Act, he said, adding that the provincial government would complete its first phase with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation. Cameras would be installed at the entry and exit points of Karachi as part of the project.

He said that the cabinet had approved another bill to make the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board independent and add to its efficacy. The approval will be taken from this current session of the Sindh Assembly. "The cabinet agenda was so lengthy, so there will be another cabinet meeting on Thursday," Wahab mentioned.
