Twitter to end free access to its API

Millions of developers have used API service to create third-party tools and track changes among Twitter accounts

Twitter will discontinue free access to API after February 9 as it gears up to launch the paid version of the feature.

The change comes as a part of the plan to monetize the platform. Twitter has not confirmed the prices for the paid version as of now.

Millions of developers have used the free API service to create third-party tools on the platform and track changes among Twitter accounts. Hence, it is being speculated that Twitter bots will shut down post the end of free service.

The end of free access is believed to affect researchers who worked in the area of online abuse, hate speech, and the spread of misinformation.
