LAHORE:

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is marred with another scandal of illegal payments to contractors in violation of the contract terms.

Official documents made available to The Express Tribune reveal that the Legal Committee of the LWMC Board had directed the company’s management to send a reference to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) for initiation of legal proceedings against one of its top officers “over deliberate illegal payments to contractors”.

The committee also advised the company to restrain the official from performing his duties until the case was resolved.

The documents show that the committee had taken up the matter of “illegal payments to a contractor” in its seventh session and directed the company to take legal action against the official. Earlier, the same matter was presented in the 134th meeting of the Board of Directors held on January 6, and the matter was referred to the Legal Committee for its advice and necessary action.

The minutes of the meeting show that the official concerned despite knowing about the meeting opted to abstain from attending the session.
