‘Gas heaters behind major fire incidents’

The highest number of fire incidents broke out due to short circuits whereas 283 incidents were due to carelessness

Emergency Services Secretary Dr  Rizwan Naseer, advised the people to switch off their gas heaters before going to bed to avoid fire incidents.

He appealed to the people to call 1122 toll-free helpline in case of any emergency for a prompt response.

He stressed that only timely calls can help minimize the damage to life and property.

He expressed these views while chairing a monthly review meeting of the rescue operation of all districts of Punjab at the Rescue Headquarters in the provincial capital on Wednesday.

The secretary was briefed by the head of the PMC on the monthly rescue operation. The PMC head told the secretary that the Punjab Emergency Service (PES) responded to 1,937 fire incidents besides other emergencies.

The majority of the fire incidents took place in Lahore. It was also stated that the highest number of fire incidents broke out due to short circuits whereas 283 incidents due to carelessness, 150 due to gas leakages, 58 due to candles, 29 due to kitchen fires and three due to LPG cylinders.

The statistic revealed that 21 people died and 191 people injuries in those fire incidents.
