Kareena Kapoor to play a character inspired by Kate Winslet in ‘Mare of Easttown’
Actor Kareena Kapoor is all set to conquer the screens this year with a character inspired by Kate Winslet's Emmy-winning role from Mare of Eastown. The Hansal Mehta directorial titled The Buckingham Murders, sees her as a mother and detective investigating a murder in a small town in Buckinghamshire.
In conversation with Variety, Kareena spoke about how excited she was to sign the project after hearing Mare of Easttown’s reference. “I love Mare of Easttown and when Hansal came to me, I said this is something that I’ve really been dying to do."
According to her, 80 per cent of the dialogue in the film is in English while only 20 per cent is in Hindi. “I speak fluently in Hindi and I think in Hindi because that’s what I’ve been doing all my life. Thinking in Hindi, but speaking in English, was actually a really difficult task,” she said on the language switch.
The Buckingham Murders, a working title for the film, will also mark Kareena's foray into production. “I never really thought that I would be a producer. But when I heard this subject, and the fact that it’s very different to a regular Hindi movie, I thought that will be really nice and different,” she stated.
Upon whether she plans to keep the producer's hat for a long time, the actor was a bit hesitant. “When Ektaa (Kapoor) and Hansal told me that ‘since you love the script so much, why don’t you come on board as a creative producer as well? I thought that if I love something so much, and this is a character that I wanted to play, it would be fun to do it.”
Apart from the murder mystery thriller, Kareena has also wrapped up the Indian adaptation of Japanese author Higashino Keigo’s bestselling 2005 novel The Devotion of Suspect X by filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh.
She tags the film as “dramatically different” from The Buckingham Murders but guarantees that it is as “dark and fun” as Mehta’s directorial. “For me, it’s very different because obviously, you’re used to seeing me in all the mainstream movies, which have songs, dances, the gloss and the glamour. Both these films are shockingly different.”
Kareena will also be seen in the comedy chick flick heist film titled The Crew alongside Tabu and Kriti Sanon, The film will begin production in March.
