Alka Yagnik beats BTS, Taylor Swift to become most streamed artist on YouTube

The singer’s achievement was mentioned in the Guinness World Records

It looks like Indian playback singer Alka Yagnik's fandom has more power than the BTS ARMY and Swifties! According to the Guinness World Records, the Tip Tip singer was the most globally streamed artist on YouTube last year, racking in a staggering 15.3 billion streams in 2022, and an average of 42 million per day.

Yagnik presently holds the top spot in YouTube's global rankings for 2022, surpassing Bad Bunny (Puerto Rico), who has accumulated 14.7 billion streams and is ranked second. The Badi Mushkil crooner has been the site's most streamed musician for the past three years, with 17.7 billion streams in 2021 and 16.6 billion streams in 2020, as per Guinness World Records.

Udit Narayan (10.8 billion), Arijit Singh (10.7 billion), and Kumar Sanu (9.09 billion) rounded up in the top 5 of the list too. Indian Express also reports that 80 percent of Yagnik's 2022 streams were from India and she was also the most-listened-to singer in Pakistan with 683 million views.

BTS and Blackpink topped the list with 7.95 billion and 7.03 billion streams, respectively, while other well-known artists such as Taylor Swift (4.33 billion) landed in 26th place, Drake (2.9 billion) in 50th, and The Weeknd (5.7 billion) in 13th.

Yagnik is one of the most popular voices in India, with several notable songs under her belt. In her four-decade-long career, she has recorded more than 20,000 songs for albums and films. The starlet has also won multiple honours for her songs, with Mere Angne Mein from the 1981 film Laawaris receiving 38 nominations.
