Didn't take a single penny: Vasay Chaudhry's tenure as VC of Punjab Film Censor Board comes to end

The filmmaker took charge of the board two months ago

Director Vasay Chaudhry’s tenure as the vice chairman of the Punjab Censor Board has come to an end, and to mark the closing of this chapter, the filmmaker took to his Twitter to detail his journey.

“After the recent denotification of the Punjab film censor board, my tenure as the vice chairman ends with viewing eight films, consuming four cups of coffee, one popcorn, one pack of chips, three water bottles, and passing seven films with cuts and banning one – it was an E grade Hollywood film,” he wrote.

The veteran assured his followers that during his tenure, he used his personal vehicle and “did not take a single penny for the films.” He went on to express his gratitude for having received the opportunity. “I would like to thank my fellow board members and everyone who helped me with this opportunity to serve in whatever way I could.”

Chaudhry closed his note with the hope that his recommendations regarding the “re-evaluation of the film-grading system,” are taken into account. “Strong implementation of piracy laws in cinemas and increasing the inspection force of censor board will be reviewed by the incoming board,” he said. “Best of luck to the new board,” concluded Chaudhry.

Chaudhry was appointed as vice chairman of the board in November. The new board was constituted for the coming two years. According to an official of the Punjab Information and Culture Department, the appointment of new members is routine and an official process to run the affairs. “There is no other particular reason to change or replace any member,” the official had clarified.
