School’s registration suspended over ‘bullying’
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali on Wednesday suspended the registration of a school wherein an incident of bullying of a girl took place a few days ago.
The DC ordered the Education Authority CEO to look after the affairs of the school during the suspension period, while suspending the registration of the school till the next date of hearing.
The DC decided to suspend the registration after hearing the arguments of the parties on the recommendation of the inquiry report by the Education Authority.
The owner and principal of the school appeared during the proceedings.
The school administration was also asked to submit their reply about recommendations of the inquiry report by the next date of hearing.
The parents of the students involved in the bullying incident were asked to file their replies till the next hearing as no reply was filed on their behalf yet. The education CEO had been asked to issue notices to the parents of the students.
Punjab Ombudsman Major (retd) Azam Suleman Khan has sought reports from the Lahore district education authority and SP Cantt regarding departmental action on a viral video about torture of a girl student in a Lahore school.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the spokesman said that DIG (Investigation) Lahore, ASP (Investigation) Lahore Cantt and chief executive officer (education) Lahore appeared before the Ombudsman at his office on Monday and apprised him of the progress on the case.
The provincial ombudsman was told that the district education authority had set up a three-member committee under the district education officer (women elementary education) to investigate the matter and submit recommendations in three days. The meeting was also told that the education authority’s rules’ violation might result in imposition of fine, suspension and other penalties against the private educational institution.
Azam Suleman directed the education department and the police to jointly devise a coordinated strategy to prevent drug abuse among students.
