Sourav Ganguly's biopic in the works

It was previously reported Ranbir Kapoor might step in for the leading role

Entertainment Desk January 25, 2023

Earlier in 2021, Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly confrimed with News18 that a film based on his life is in the works. However, at the time he kept most of the details about the upcoming biopic under wraps.

Now, after two years, the former Indian captain has finally revealed in a recent interview that he is currently in Mumbai to finalise the project.

"I am in Mumbai to finalise all my pending deals. There are discussions regarding the script of the biopic. I am writing the script myself. The screenplay will be discussed with Luv Production House. For several months, the work of making the biopic did not progress much. In fact, due to my and the production house’s tight schedule, the work was not picking up pace. This time, it will be done quickly," said Ganguly as per the publication.

Although it was previously reported that superstar Ranbir Kapoor would likely essay Ganguly in the memoir, when he asked about the lead actor, he shared, "No final decision has been taken. I hope we can share something positive after the meeting."

According to the aforementioned publication, Ganguly further revealed that the release date for the biopic has yet to be decided as he is still polishing the script.

Even though Ganguly did not spill the beans about the cast, there's one actor who does not make the cut for the former Indian captain.

In 2021, during Neha Dhupia's show, when Ganguly was asked if Hrithik Roshan would be the best choice to play on screen, he joked, "First, he would have to get a body like mine for the role. A lot of people would say that because of the way Hrithik’s body is, how good-looking he is, and how muscular he is, you’ll have to get a body like Hrithik’. But, Hrithik will have to get a body like mine."
