KARACHI:

The port city remained cold and windy throughout the day with the minimum temperature recorded at 9.5 degree Celsius on Thursday.

The maximum wind velocity of chilly gusts blowing from the snowcapped mountains of Balochistan was recorded at 30 kilometers per hour, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

PMD Karachi Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said a new cold wave was expected between January 22 and 23 in Karachi. He said cold winds may cause freezing weather again with the minimum temperature 05 degree Celsius. The freezing cold weather may last a week, he said.

A few areas of the province such as Jacobabad, Qamber Shahdakot, Larkana, and nearby districts are likely to receive light rain today.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, the intensity of the cold forced the citizens to remain indoors after dusk. Markets closed down early and even stores that used to remain open late at night were shut.

The demand for warm clothes and hot drinks increased again. Citizen's rush was also witnessed at fried fish shops and soup stalls.

The Sukkur division and other parts of northern Sindh received the first rain shower of the winter season, which turned the weather cold on Thursday morning.

Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki including Shikarpur, Jaccababad, Kahsmore Kandhkot, Noshehroferoze and other areas received rain.
