Bidding for parking plaza ends inconclusively

According to sources, the Rawalpindi Development Authority has appointed its own collector for the parking fee

RAWALPINDI:

The auction of the garrison city’s only government-owned parking plaza failed for the fourth time on Wednesday after a disagreement between the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and the contractors.

Located at Fawara Chowk in Raja Bazaar, the multi-story parking plaza was to be auctioned Wednesday but the bidders adopted the stance that since the benchmark amount to start the bid was raised by 10% as compared to the previous year, the parking fee should be raised with the same ratio.

According to sources, the Rawalpindi Development Authority has appointed its own collector for the collection of the parking fee.

The auction committee comprising director engineering Amir Rashid, director estate management Asif Janjua, deputy director finance Khawaja Arshad Javed and others set the previous amount of Rs38.8 million as the benchmark at the onset of the bidding process.
