KU gets eight more buses

Purchased some months ago, the buses were standing idle due to lack of funds

KARACHI:

More than 43,000 students of the country’s largest university forced to travel crammed like sardines in 22 rickety buses are hoping for some respite in their daily commute with the addition of eight new ‘points’ as the university buses are called.

Purchased some months ago, these eight buses were standing idle due to lack of funds with the KU to pay the registration insurance charges of the vehicles. “I’m doing everything I can to give our students the best amenities despite the challenging financial situation of the university,” KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi told cheering students during a ceremony at the transport department of the university. “I hope that the addition of these eight buses would significantly improve transportation of students to and from the university,” he added.

He appreciated the efforts made by the transport department’s director, Dr Qadir Muhammad Ali, and his team, saying that their contribution to the department’s progress is commendable.
