Theft: Rs4.6m stolen from money exchange
The four men took out pistols and over-powered the guards.
KARACHI:
Robbers took off with over Rs4.6 million from a money exchange shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal at Nipa Chowrangi on Thursday.
The Aziz Bhatti police said that four suspects entered AA Exchange Pvt Ltd on the pretext of asking Saudi riyal rates and then took everyone inside hostage.
Usually, money exchange firms have a team of guards, but the robbers seemed to have chosen a time when there were only two guards at the establishment to make their move. The suspects were armed with pistols and they suddenly turned around and overpowered the guards.
They demanded that the employees hand over the money immediately if they want to live. In the end, an estimated Rs4.6 million was stolen and the suspects are believed to have escaped in a jeep. “A large amount of money was in the denomination of American dollars,” said the police. Investigation Officer SI Omer said that CCTV cameras were installed at various points inside and outside the shop. The police have obtained the footage and are analysing it hoping to catch the suspects.
