The 4th Tilism Theater and Dance Festival saw a grand opening with the classical performance of well-known classical dancer Sohai Abro, in conjunction with the completion of 45 years of Tehreek-e-Niswan. The event is organised with the joint cooperation of Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, and Tehreek-e-Niswan.
Sheema Kermani and her group presented a great classical dance. Romana Hussain was the moderator at the event. The founder of Tehreek-eNiswan Sheema Kermani said, “The journey of Tehreek-eNiswan has been continuing with the hard work for the last 45 years. We have struggled to convince ourselves. Today we are celebrating our day. I thank Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, for giving us the opportunity to organise this festival, theater, dance, music and debates.”
According to the organisers, the festival will continue until January 22 with lots of entertainments including games and performances daily at 7:30pm. The festival is free for all but children under 12 years of age are not allowed. It may be mentioned that many of the plays at the festival have been significant in the history of theater and dance in Pakistan. Mohenjo Daro Puppet Show, Urdu version of ‘Light in the Village’, originally written by Scottish playwright Jo Clifford, are the highlights of the event. Jo will be the keynote speaker at the conference, titled: ‘Building a Theater of Love’, which is scheduled for January 9.
The conference will be followed by two performances of her play ‘Gaon Me Roshni’ on January 10 and 11. Other highlights of the event include new production ‘Andrasbha’, comedy drama ‘Bahrupiya’, historical play ‘Jinnay Lahore Nahin Vekhya’, and performance by Sufi poet, dancer, saint Bhagat Kanwar Ram. The event also marks the 100 years of the discovery of Mohenjo Daro. Spectacular dance drama ‘Mohenjo Daro’ is also lined up.
