LAHORE:

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday reviewed the political situation in Punjab especially in relation to Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi’s statement regarding not taking the vote of confidence in the provincial assembly.

On Thursday, Elahi had said that he would not seek a vote of confidence on the direction of Governor Balighur Rehman, saying that it was “illegal”.

The PML-N held a meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed the matter.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the prime minister about the constitutional position on the issue of refraining from the vote of confidence.

He told the premier that the Punjab CM would have to take a vote of confidence in any case.

During the meeting, the constitutional and legal options available in case he refrained from the vote were also considered.
