Off-road riders test skills in flood relief jeep rally

More than 60 vehicles registered for the event at the camp set up in Marvi sports ground in Mithi taluka

HYDRABAD:

Dozens of four-by-four off-road vehicles from the nook and cranny of the country rolled into the desert of Tharparkar for the annual jeep rally.

Off-road enthusiasts came with more than 60 vehicles of different engine capacities to show their skills at Thar Flood Relief Jeep Rally, organised by Sindh sports and tourism departments and Sindh Motorsports Association.

More than 60 vehicles registered for the event at the camp set up in Marvi sports ground in Mithi taluka by Wednesday night. The registration continued on Thursday. Four local drivers are among the participants who took rounds of the track on Thursday before the official start of the race.

The event's qualifying round will begin on January 6 and it will be inaugurated by Sindh sports adviser Arbab Lutfullah. Mir Nadir Magsi and Muskesh Chawla, who belong to the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party's are also participating.

On Friday, the vehicles took part in the stock category race. The race over the 107km-long desert track will take place on January 8. The horse and camel races, traditional wrestling and other activities have also been organized on the sidelines.
