Engineering university to be established in Gujrat: CM
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Pervaiz Elahi, said that he was overjoyed to see that the sapling which had been planted in the shape of Gujrat University had now become a strong tree.
He said this while addressing the seventh convocation at the University of Gujrat.
The CM said that the presence of 62 per cent female students in the Gujrat University was an excellent example of women empowerment.
The environment had changed entirely with the establishment of a university in Gujrat as educated youth had eliminated the culture of “fight and quarrel”.
The CM appreciated the performance of the Vice Chancellor of Gujrat University, Prof. Dr. Shabbar Atique, and stated that his team had been doing an excellent work.
He said that no country could make any progress without attaining education. The chief minister said that Allah Almighty blessed upon him the opportunity to serve the people again. The land of Gujrat holds the distinction of having two Nishan-e-Haider recipients.
The CM announced establishment of a state-of-the-art engineering university at the cost of Rs9 billion in Gujrat.
The students after graduating from the engineering university would also be given jobs.
The CM said that girls’ hostels would be set up in the University of Gujrat at the cost of Rs420 million adding that Rs150 million would be disbursed to the University of Gujrat for purchasing eight new buses.
An IT lab at the cost of Rs40 million would be established in the Gujrat University.
The chief minister said his government had been providing free education and books to the children and had also increased the stipends for children. Nazra and Quranic translation had been made compulsory for students in schools and colleges.
The CM stated that Gujrat was not a district but a division. He said that Gujrat would be made a centre of excellence by all means.
“No one will need to go abroad for undergoing treatment or getting education,” said Pervaiz Elahi.
