Panel seeks details of missing persons

Commission to only assist families of missing persons who are not involved in terrorism activities across the country

Home Minister Balochistan, Mir Ziaullah Langove on Friday chaired the first meeting of the parliamentary commission about the missing persons.

The Balochistan government formed a parliamentary commission on the directives of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) with regard to the missing persons’ issue a few days back.

This high-powered commission would make all-out efforts to assist the families of the missing persons, Langove told the participants of the meeting.

The meeting also reviewed the method for financial assistance to the families of the missing persons. The home minister however clarified that the government would only assist the families of those missing persons who are not involved in terrorism activities across the country.

Addressing the meeting, he said a large number of missing persons have already returned to their homes in Balochistan in recent years, adding that the provincial and federal governments were committed to resolve this issue on a priority basis.

The meeting decided to seek all the details about the missing persons from the concerned authorities. The members of the commission decided to meet the family members of the missing persons and vowed to make a progress in this regard.

The Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Zahid Saleem thoroughly briefed the members about the missing persons’ cases.

Balochistan Finance Minister, Zamarak Khan Achakzai, Malik Naseer Shahwani of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) and Zabid Reki of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) participated in the meeting.
