The Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Postgraduate Studies will be established in the Pakistan Liver and Kidney Transplant Institute (PKLI), the Punjab chief minister announced on Wednesday.
The chief minister laid the foundation stone of the institute, planned to be built at a cost of Rs3.5 billion. He said on the occasion that funds had been allocated for the project.
He disclosed that doctors would be imparted specialised training in 17 subjects after MBBS, nurses would also be trained in 10 subjects in the institute.
The chief minister announcing that 10 acres of land would be allocated for setting up a new block of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University in the Knowledge Park. Another two acres of land will be allocated for the Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority in the Knowledge Park.
He said courses related to management would also be offered by the postgraduate institute along with modern professional subjects.
The CM outlined that funds had also been allocated for bone marrow transplant centres and a ban of recruitment in the PKLI had been lifted.
Provincial Specialised Healthcare Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid and Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi gave a briefing to the CM about the Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Postgraduate Studies project.
Population welfare vacancies
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Representative Dr Luay Shabaneh also called on Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and agreed to make cooperation more effective, especially family planning.
The CM announced recruitment to fill approved vacant posts in the Punjab Population Welfare Department and said the government would go all out to achieve the family planning targets.
He added that people in rural and underdeveloped urban areas would be sensitised about the importance of family planning.
Family health clinics and welfare centre will be made more active and the initiatives will be regularly monitored at the tehsil and district levels, he stated.
