Inspector General of Police Aamir Zulfiqar Khan has said that intelligence reports of the Special Branch play a key role in maintaining law and order in the province.

Presiding over a meeting at the Special Branch headquarters, he said the important work of the police wing was in the field.

He said the officials concerned should send reports regarding effective vigilance on the law and order situation and activities of anti-state elements in their districts.

The IGP directed the Special Branch additional IG to seek daily progress reports about the situation in all regions through video link and effectively monitor the local situation and challenges.

He said the Special Branch and the district police should take comprehensive steps to stamp out the banned organisations and anti-social elements involved in disturbing peace.

The Punjab IGP said the shortage of personnel in the Special Branch would be addressed soon and provision of modern resources would also be ensured.

IGP Aamir Zulfiqar directed Special Branch officials of Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan to hold a meeting with the South Punjab AIG for launching a major crackdown to permanently eradicate criminals from the riverine Katcha area.

Addressing a Police Darbar after the meeting, the IGP said all officials should take special care of the self-esteem of the citizens.

He said the capacity building of the force was also the responsibility of the officers.
