People with ‘passwords’ can get items on subsidised rates
The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has announced that the people who avail the password by sending their CNIC to 5566 will get essential items on subsidised rates only once. However, it has further increased the prices of sugar, ghee, and flour for the people without passwords.
Further, families registered under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will continue to receive targeted subsidies.
After the approval of the federal cabinet, the USC has notified the new prices of ghee, flour and sugar.
According to the notification, eight million families under the BISP would get sugar for Rs70 per kilo, 10kg flour bag for Rs400 and ghee for Rs300 per kilo.

For others, the price for ghee has been increased by Rs75 per kilo, sugar Rs19 per kg and a 10kg bag of flour by Rs248.
Following this notification, citizens have complained that the government has snatched their last resort amid surging inflation.
According to the notification, targeted subsidy consumers will be allowed to buy 40kg of flour, 5kg of sugar and 5kg of ghee per month, while the general public will be able to purchase 20kg of flour, 3kg of ghee and 3kg of sugar per month.
