PGCE initiative to help Pakistan combat climate change: Lotz
German Consul General Dr. Rüdiger Lotz met Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal memon at his office. They discussed wide range of opportnities to enhance cultural and academic exchanges between the two countries emphasising on expanding and strenghtening the long-running partnership.
The commissioner said that the Goethe Institute in Karachi has played a pivotal role in harnessing cultural relations between the two countries through its programmes and language courses. The CG said that Karachi is not only the economic hub of Pakistan but a vibrant, bustling metropolis full of culture, diversity and dynamism.
He expressed interest in helping Karachi become more sustainable by providing civic amenities at a time when the city is witnessing rapid growth in population and economy. The two sides also agreed to declare Karachi and a city of Germany sister cities.
They discussed the projects which could be brought for the improvement of sister cities. The CG also informed the commissioner about the Pakistan-German Climate and Energy (PGCE) initiative which will help Pakistan combat the adverse impact of climate change.
The commissioner mentioned that Germany is one of the most popular destinations for young Pakistani researchers wishing to pursue higher education. He wished that further opportunities would be explored to provide research and higher education to the Karachiites.
