Sindh Rangers on Saturday released its annual performance report for the year 2022. According to the report, a total of 269 operations were conducted against terrorism, target killing, kidnapping for ransom and extortion, during which 65 high-profile suspects were arrested, including terrorists belonging to the Lyari gang war, MQM London and TTP.
Over 180 operations were alone conducted against terrorism in which 60 terrorists were arrested. Similarly, s total of 10 operations were conducted against target killers in which six suspects were arrested. The Rangers also arrested 61 extortionists during 48 operation, the report said.
Likewise, a total of 30 operations were carried out against kidnappers in which 40 suspects were nabbed. The report further stated that during these operations, 34 weapons and 1,877 ammunitions of different types were also recovered, including 14 Russia-made rockets. In response to other serious offenses, Sindh Rangers conducted a total of 2,292 operations, including crackdowns against robbery, street crime and drug peddling during the outgoing year.
A total of 506 operations were conducted against robbers in which 725 suspects were arrested. A total of 659 operations were conducted against drugs in which 738 suspects were arrested. A total of 1,109 operations were conducted against other criminals in which 2,748 suspects were arrested.
Altogether, the Rangers arrested 39 high-profile robbers, drug dealers and criminals. The spokesman for Sindh Rangers said that 1,091 weapons and 11,136 different types of ammunition were also recovered during the operations. A total of 60,000.577kgs of drugs were recovered during the operation against drug peddling in Karachi and interior Sindh, including 1,969.16kgs of hashish, 128.703kgs of heroin, 133.914kgs of ice/crystal, 8.46kgs of opium, 6,056kgs of gutka, and 51,705kgs of betel nuts.
Several high profile drug dealers were also apprehended during various operations. As per Rangers spokesperson, operations were also carried out against foreigners residing illegally in Pakistan, during which a total of 1,719 people were detained and 1,056 were handed over to the police. A total of 663 people were sent back to their country with the help of Balochistan government.
Various events were also organized by Pakistan Rangers Sindh to control the law and order situation in Karachi and interior Sindh. Foolproof security was also provided especially during PSL, tours of foreign cricket teams, ideas exhibition and religious festivals of other communities.
Rangers also played an active role during the flood and distributed food, blankets, clothes, 2,223.6 tons of food items and Rs240.8 million to the flood victims in Sindh with the support of philanthropists. During 2022, a total of 1,580 complaints were received in the Rangers Helper Cell established for solving the problems of citizens, out of which 1307 complaints were addressed while 17 persons were detained. During the operations, the Rangers also lost two of its personnel while five others sustained injuries.
