RAWALPINDI:

Upon completion of the three-year statutory term of local zakat committees, which distribute financial assistance to the deserving people of the Rawalpindi district, 1,166 such committees have been dissolved.

According to a notification issued in this regard, the chairman and all members of these local committees have been relieved.

Meanwhile, District Zakat Committee chairman Ghulam Hasan Khan has also left his position upon completion of his term.

Due to the non-existence of the local zakat committees and the non-availability of the chairman for the district zakat committee, the distribution of funds among the beneficiaries has stopped throughout the district.

Sources said the distribution of financial assistance from the Zakat fund to around 10,000 deserving people and the dowry fund for marriages of girls belonging to humble households has also been stopped.
