Not a match-fixer at least: Fahad Mustafa disses Danish Kaneria while defending Shahid Afridi
Actor and host Fahad Mustafa is a true Shahid Afridi fan and won’t let anyone make fun of the former captain – even if it's a cricketer himself. So when former pacer Danish Kaneria dissed Afridi for being the Chief Selector of the national cricket team, the Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad actor didn’t hold back.
On Monday, Kaneria took a jibe at Afridi with a blurry zoomed-in image of him eating on the field in the national team’s shirt.
When Mustafa saw the former leg-spinner criticise Afridi for no reason, he ran to Afridi’s defense. “And he’s clearly not a match-fixer like you,” read his tweet.
While his support was lauded, many Twitter users brought a throwback picture and called out the Actor in Law star for never raising his voice against former bowler Muhammad Amir for the same.
In 2012, Kaneria was named in court as a go-between in a spot-fixing case involving former English county player Mervyn Westfield. A lifetime ban was imposed on him, which even after numerous appeals, was never revoked.
Bowler Westfield, 23, pleaded guilty at a hearing to being paid £6,000 to give away a set number of runs in the first over of a match between his Essex side and Durham in September 2009. The London court heard that Westfield’s Essex teammate Kaneria told him that a friend would pay him to cheat, Britain’s Press Association reported.
