Motorway police urge care during fog

Official warns motorists against violation of SOPs

ISLAMABAD:

The National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) have expanded its campaign to sensitize motorists travelling on motorways in the dense fog and shared video messages in various regional languages to ensure the safety of travellers.

NHMP Inspector Saqib Mumtaz expressed displeasure over the lackadaisical behaviour of some motorists, who he said were ignoring fog warnings and advisories, putting their lives at risk.

“Some motorists ignore cooperating with motorway police despite stern warnings and low visibility and this is irresponsible behaviour,” he said adding that traffic has been halted on different sections of the motorways due to fog but some motorists were bent on moving ahead without caring about possible risks, which could prove fatal.

The official said that the motorway has been closed from Islamabad to Peshawar, Islamabad to Rashakai, Balkasar to Lahore, and Sawat Express Highway from Karnal Sher Khan to Ismaila and further from Layyah to Lahore due to low visibility.

He asked travellers to avoid unnecessary mobility and must keep fog lights turned on duration their journey on highways and motorways.
