Two held in murder mystery
The incident of a gruesome murder in which first a young man’s severed head was found and later the rest of his body and which remained wrapped in mystery in the division for the last five months appears to have been solved.
Police said that they first managed to identify the victim which led them to the alleged killers who turned out to be none other than the victim’s brothers.
Police alleged that the motive behind the gruesome murder was the victim’s alleged immoral behaviour. They said that the suspects made several attempts to persuade his brother to become a decent person but in vain.
Police said that things finally came to a head when an alleged objectionable video of the victim somehow reached his brothers.
Five months ago, a severed head had been found lying in a garbage heap in Kacha Fatomand area of the Civil Lines Police Station. The division then had been braving the monsoon rains. As rain fell on the heap where the head had been lying it made it flow all the way to Gul Road.
The police were tipped off about the severed human head by the area people who had been thrown off balance by what they had been seeing.
Police arrived on the spot and collected the head. A couple of days later a headless body was found in a motorcycle showroom.
It didn’t take police long to conclude that the headless body and the severed head were of the same person. However, identifying the victim remained a mystery to them.
Punjab police contacted their counterparts in other provinces in their pursuit of discovering who the victim was.
The CPO of Gujranwala, Umar Salamat, and the SP of Civil Lines, Rizwan Tariq, along with SHO Qaiser Shah, started scanning the people who come to work in Gujranwala from other districts.
Their strategy worked.
It was found that a young man, Ghazi Rehman, who was a resident of Hangu and who used to work in a showroom, had gone missing.
Police started looking for people who had helped Ghazi Rehman in finding a job in the showroom. They soon managed to find the contact numbers of the people they had been looking for.
They were called to the police station where they told the police that the victim’s brothers worked as security guards in a company.
The accused were arrested after police got their addresses and phone numbers from the company where they worked.
The suspects, Fazal Yamin and Ishaq, allegedly told the police that their brother Ghazi Rehman used to borrow money from the shop and that they had been angry with him over his alleged immoral activities. To make things worse they received a video which allegedly exposed their brother’s immoral activities. That was the final straw.
Police quoted the accused as saying that the suspects got hold of their brother and asked him about the monkey business. Instead of showing remorse Ghazi Rehman allegedly started arguing with his brothers. Ultimately the brothers came to blows, and an iron rod pierced into Ghazi Rehman’s abdomen. He fell down and lost consciousness.
Police quoted Fazal Yameen as allegedly telling them that he thought that Ghazi Rehman, who was his younger brother, had died.
Fazal Yameen allegedly told the police that he severed his brother’s head from his body with an axe lying in the workshop and put it into a bag.
Police alleged that the suspect told them that he then woke his youngest brother Ishaq up and took him along to throw the head in the garbage heap and the body on the roof of the showroom and then they went home for Eid holidays.
