KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) while giving remarks on the petition related to ban on the entry of heavy traffic in the city during daytime, said that there is no sense of the existence of traffic police in the city.

“Cars fitted with colorful number plates roam about with not fear of law which is limited to books only. No one is afraid of the police, no one respects the law,” said Justice Nadeem Akhtar heading a two-member bench on Thursday.

The court sought a written response from transporters with regard to application to ban entry of heavy traffic in the city during the daytime.

Traffic DIG submitting the implementation report in the court said they have erected warning signs against entry of heavy traffic in the city during daytime at all the checkpoints.

The court remarked that why arrangements could not be made at M-9 Toll Plaza that heavy traffic could not enter during restricted hours? DIG Traffic said that M-9 Toll Plaza is under the jurisdiction of National Highways and Motorway Police.

The petitioner’s counsel submitted that heavy traffic is coming from Northern Bypass, Malir and Hub. There are jurisdictional issues in the city. DIG Traffic has said the right thing in his report. How many deaths have occurred in the accidents should also be ascertained?

The court inquired from the DIG traffic that whether the court orders are being fully implemented? DIG Traffic said that the court orders are being implemented in letter and spirit. Red line is being worked on. Dumpers etc are working there. Around 2,000 cameras are installed and the traffic is being monitored from there. There was some issue with the cement mixer vehicles, they left late.

Dr Aamir’s case

The East District Judicial Magistrate Mukesh Kumar reserved the judgment after completion of the arguments of the parties on the bail plea of the widow of Dr Aamir Liaquat, Daniya Shah, who is accused of uploading his nude video on social media.

Daniya’s Counsel Liaquat Ali Gabol Advocate while giving arguments on the bail application said that the late Aamir had never filed any complaint against Daniya Shah in his life.

“There is no proof in the controversial video that Daniya Shah made it,” the counsel of accused stated adding that the main problem was that there was a dispute between husband and wife. The wife had left her husband’s house in anger.
