Five vendors killed in Gujrat accident laid to rest
Five men who had died in a traffic accident due to fog in Gujrat on Wednesday were buried in a local graveyard on Thursday amid an atmosphere of gloom in the division.
The deceased, Haji Sadiq, 70, Abdul Shakoor 60, Fazl Hussain, 50, Mirza Amjad Baig, 40, and Muhammad Shafiq, were vegetable vendors, and they had been on their way to the market in the early hours of Wednesday morning when their rickshaw was crushed by a truck on the GT Road.
All the five vendors had died on the spot. Three of the deceased were residents of Bagh Bawa.
Rehmaniya Police Station registered a case against the truck driver who has been absconding.
Police and rescue personnel immediately reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital after necessary action.
The rescue team said that the accident happened due to high speed. In May this year, five of a family were killed and two others had sustained injuries in a collision between an oil tanker and a motorcycle rickshaw on the Samundari Road.
According to police, a “speeding” oil tanker had hit a motorcycle rickshaw near Samundari Road. The deceased were identified as Ali, Matin, Ruqqiya Bibi, Iman Fatima and Noor Fatima.
The victims, who had been residents of 265 Rab Badi Nagan, died on the spot while the injured, Mohammad Rashid and his son Muqaddas, were rushed to the hospital by the rescue team. A large number of people had gathered on the spot where the bodies of the victims were lying.
