Even with all the charisma, ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ fails to be a memorable party number

Sung by Arijit Singh, the song revolves around Khan's powerful character's impact on people around him

Shah Rukh Khan is not willing to sit around for controversies to settle before releasing the next song of his upcoming film Pathaan. The star dropped the second track of the film, a party number, picturised on him and Deepika Padukone in their sexy avatars on Thursday.

While Besharam Rang was largely based on Padukone and her character, Jhoome Jo Pathaan, shot in picturesque locations in Europe, takes you on a ride to see how charismatic and romantic and sly SRK's spy is.

Sung by Arijit Singh,  Jhoome Jo Pathaan, as the name suggests, is a groovy track that echoes about the killer team that Padukone and Khan make in the film. It sings praises for Pathaan and how the world revolves around him. With his long hair, toned abs, drugged eyes and a rugged look, Khan nails the casual don look in the song while Padukone stays on top of the glam game in dresses and shorts. However, the song doesn’t offer a unique catchy beat, and hence, fails to be a memorable one.

Khan uploaded a glimpse of the song on his Instagram with a love note. Tumne mohabbat karni hai, humne mohabbat ki hai/ Iss dil ke ‘alava kisi se bhi, na humne ijaazat li hai! (You desire to love, I have loved/ It’s only your heart, that I’ve taken permission from.) Let’s jhoomo!!” he captioned the post.

Singh and love songs are a match made in heaven and so – there’s no doubt that he was director Siddharth Anand’s first choice for the film. "When we were planning Jhoome Jo Pathaan, I was clear that we should have Arijit Singh sing for Shah Rukh Khan. He is the number one singer of our country and we wanted him to sing for the number one evergreen superstar!” Anand told Hindustan Times before the release of the song.

Jhoome Jo Pathaan is a song I'm proud of and extremely confident about. I think the audience will find it irresistible," he added.

The first song from the film, Besharam Rang, evoked controversy in India with several BJP leaders expressing anger over the use of the colour saffron in Deepika Padukone's “objectionable” costumes. Some clerics in Madhya Pradesh were also left fuming over the film's title and sought a ban on the film's release.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, Pathaan stars Khan, Padukone and John Abraham in the lead roles and is all set to hit the theatres on January 25, 2023.
