QUETTA:

Mahmood Khan Achakzai has been elected chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.

The three-day 7th national congress was held to elect central, provincial executives or cabinets and working committees.

It was held in Quetta from December 19 to 21.

More than 10,000 delegates from across the country participated in the event.

The congress reviewed and discussed the organizational affairs, structure and constitution for three days, and also endorsed all decisions made by the party chairman in the interim period between 6th and 7th congress.

Addressing the national congress that elected the new office-bearers, Achakzai urged the Pakhtuns to focus on their children’s education which should also include social and moral aspects to prepare them for facing the current complex political challenges.

He regretted that turning their land into a battleground for proxy wars stopped the evolutionary cycle that pushed Pakhtuns into social, political, and economic stagnation.

He further observed that Pakhtuns are still entangled in tribal and personal conflicts that are mostly based on trivial issues. Such conflicts devour a thousand lives every year, he added.

Therefore, I call upon the party, particularly Nawab Ayaz Jogezai to constitute a grand reconciliatory Jirga which has representation from every tribe and region for preventing and settling petty tribal disputes. Achakzai thanked the participants and party volunteers for best arrangements.

The distinct features of the 7th national congress were good discipline on part of workers and meticulous security and administrative arrangements including a well-staffed and stocked medical camp.

Before the opening session Achakzai greeted all delegates. After the opening address by the party chief, the house was opened for the delegates to present their points of view.
