IG relinquishes charge, chief secretary replaced as Punjab braces for political showdown

Ghulam Rasool Zahid given charge of acting IG Punjab

LAHORE:

As another political storm gathers over Punjab, the government on Wednesday replaced Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal, while Inspector General (IG) Police Faisal Shahkar relinquished charge of his post.

The Establishment Division issued a formal notification stating that Abdullah Khan Sambal has been appointed as the new provincial chief secretary.

The new chief secretary belongs to the 23rd Common of Pakistan Administrative Service and has extensive experience in the fields of finance and administration.

He has also served as additional chief secretary, secretary finance, and commissioner Lahore in addition to serving in important positions in various other departments.

Sambal has also served as secretary higher education, secretary information, and commissioner Sahiwal.

On the other hand, the report regarding the resignation of the IG Police has been sent to secretary services, after which Ghulam Rasool Zahid has been given the charge of acting IG Punjab.

According to a notification, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, Zahid has been ordered to take this additional charge with immediate effect.

 

Zahid joined the Police Service of Pakistan in 1991 and belongs to the 19th Common of Police Service of Pakistan. He is currently posted as additional IG investigation Punjab.
