BHC admits Gill’s petition against FIR

The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Tuesday admitted a constitutional petition challenging the registration of the first information report (FIR) against Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehbaz Gill in the province.

Police in Balochistan’s Killa Abdullah district had registered an FIR against Shehbaz Gill, the former ruling party’s leader for using foul language against state institutions. Balochistan police had also contacted Gill in the federal capital.

“We have approached the court about quashing of FIR against Shehbaz Gill,” Syed Iqbal Shah, the central leader of PTI lawyers forum told journalists on Tuesday. A single bench of the BHC comprising Justice Abdul Hameed Baloch admitted the petition and directed issuing notices to the concerned authorities.

A local resident in Killa Abdullah had submitted an application at the police station against Gill. The applicant had demanded of the police to register FIR and arrest Gill for using foul language against state institutions. BHC has already ordered quashing of all eight FIRs against Azam Swati, the former federal minister and central leader of PTI. Swati’s son had challenged registration of FIRs against his father in Balochistan. A division bench of the BHC had ordered quashing of FIRs against Azam Swati.
