LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim came down hard over filling irrelevant petitions on Tuesday while hearing a plea seeking directives to the authorities concerned to save the Punjab Assembly from dissolution.

The petitioner ‘s counsel withdrew the petition after the judge observed that he would not be left with even a single penny to go back home if the plea was not withdrawn.

As proceedings commenced, the petitioner’s counsel implored the court that the country’ s prevailing economic crises did not allow going into elections. He claimed that dissolving the assembly might aggravate the crises.

He contended that Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had vowed not to dissolve the assembly, claiming that the assemblies would complete their tenure.

The counsel said dissolving assemblies merely on the direction of Pakistan tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan would be an unconstitutional move.

Justice Karim remarked that the conditions regarding dissolving the assemblies were very clear.

How someone could be forbidden from exercising a constitutional right? the judge remarked.

Justice Karim wondered why such petitions were filed that wasted the court’s time.
