Accompanied by her husband and parents, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai on Thursday visited Delhi Gate, Wazir Khan Mosque and other historical places in Lahore. 

Malala, who arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday, spent a busy day in the walled city by visiting Delhi Gate, Wazir Khan Mosque and the Shahi Hamam (royal bath) escorted by security vehicles.

The rights activist, accompanied by her family members also toured the Lahore Fort and the Greater Iqbal Park in the provincial capital.

She was also briefed on the historical sites by a representative of the Walled City Authority of Lahore and was also presented a souvenir.

A day earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced imposing a ban on giving corporal punishment in schools and madaris at the request of Malala Yousafzai and added that awarding physical punishment to students, especially to female students will not be acceptable at all.

"We will implement the law on giving physical punishment and this law will be passed from Punjab Assembly during the current month," he assured the Nobel peace laureate, who called on him on Wednesday at the CM Office to discuss activities of Malala Fund in Pakistan, future strategies and other projects.

Promotion of education in the province especially in girls' education and the STEAM programme was also discussed.

Malala lauded Elahi’s programme to introduce reforms in the education sector and paid rich tributes to the education-friendly steps of the chief minister.
