In an early morning robbery incident, five armed robbers took away cash, foreign currency, gold ornaments and a pistol worth more than Rs20 million from a house within the limits of Morgah police station in the garrison city.
Police and forensic science agency teams collected evidence from the spot and started an investigation.
Police sources said five armed robbers broke into the Akbar House, the house of Chaudhry Aurangzeb near Morgah village, in the wee hours on Sunday and took the family hostage at gunpoint before locking them up inside a room.
They said while one of the robbers stood guard over the hostage family, others ransacked the house and looted Rs7,500,000 in cash including €9,000, $500, 80 tolas of gold and a briefcase containing passports, important documents and a 9mm pistol.
As soon as the information was received, SHO Morgaha Police and Forensic Science Agency teams reached the spot and started an investigation after collecting the evidence.
Rawalpindi SSP Operations Waseem Riaz also reached the victim's house and instructed the police to trace the suspects at the earliest.
