MULTAN:

The Society for Special Persons (SSP) trained over 650 physically-challenged persons from across South Punjab at the organization’s institute. The SSP worked in collaboration with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission to impart skills to handicapped citizens, said Chairperson SSP Zahida Hameed while talking to the on Sunday.

Ms Zahida stated that the SSP was facilitating physically-challenged persons by providing disability certificates, Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC), training in six different vocations, issuance of tool-kits and assistance in getting loans from Akhuwat Foundation to start businesses. She added that issuance of disability certificates and CNICs was critical in managing jobs for differently-abled persons.

She highlighted that SSP was offering technical courses in stitching, computer graphics, mobile phone repair, handicrafts, computer applications and software specially designed for blind persons. Over 650 differently-abled citizens received training from the institute and were provided tool kits, including stitching machines, computers and other required articles after the course’s conclusion.

A good number of trained persons are starting their own businesses and supporting their families, in spite of their physical challenges. Responding to a query, Zahida stated that the SSP had given over 12,000 customized wheelchairs to differently-abled persons.
