In a first, the residents of a village have announced forming a peace committee to combat terrorism taking into account the deteriorating law and order situation in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
The peace committee has been formed in Landiwa village which is the largest village of the district. It has been tasked with taking steps to ensure maintenance of law and order in the area.
A grand Jirga was held here in this regard, attended by local elders, police officials and officers of the district administration including provincial leader of the Pashtunkhwa Mili Awami Party Dr Abdullah Khan, Malik Najeebullah Khan, DSP Sarai Nurang Ismail Khan, Inspector Zafarullah Khan, SHO Amir Khan, Abdul Razaq and others.
The meeting demanded that local residents should be provided with a peaceful environment, adding that an all-out support to the government would be rendered to this end.
“We can’t stand terrorism in the name of religion anymore,” he said, adding that every step would be taken to eliminate it.
The call for a grand Jirga was given by locals after the attack at a police mobile vehicle which left six dead, including a resident of the Landawa village. Thousands of people attended the Jirga and approved the raising of a peace committee to combat terrorism in the area. It may be mentioned here that Lakki Marwat is one of the most volatile districts of K-P along with North and South Waziristan.
