RAWALPINDI:

The security forces on Monday killed five hardcore terrorists during an intelligence based operation (IBO) in the Jhallar Algad area of North Waziristan district, the military said in a statement.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between the security forces and terrorists.

It said that the troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location which resulted in the killing of five terrorists, adding that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain terrorists.

"The killed terrorists remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent citizens," it said.

However, the ISPR said, during the intense exchange of fire, Sepoy Nasir Khan, a 25-year-old resident of South Waziristan district, embraced martyrdom.

It said that sanitisation of the area was being carried out to eliminate terrorists.

Last week, the security forces killed a notorious terrorist commander, Muhammad Noor alias Sarakai, in an exchange of fire in the North Waziristan district.

The ISPR said that on December 2 an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and troops in general area of Shewa.

The slain terrorist remained actively involved in high-profile terrorist activities against security forces as well as kidnapping for ransom and was wanted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in multiple cases, the military’s media wing added.
