Abuse of power: Revenue officers charged with corruption

The revenue officers were found guilty of transferring and attesting the land on a fake mutation deed

HARIPUR:

A criminal case was registered against revenue officials including the tehsildar (revenue officer) on Tuesday for altering land documents.

The revenue officers were found guilty of transferring and attesting the land on a fake mutation deed, an official of the anti-corruption department said.

Anti-corruption Assistant Circle Officer Piyamber Raza said that Mushtaq Ahmed Naseem, a resident of Kahal village, stated that he had purchased a 1,820 square metre land from Rehmat Khan for Rs200,000.

However, he said when he approached revenue officer Javed Khan for the transfer of the property, he was told to pay Rs1,800 as transfer fees and Rs7,000 as “personal fee”.

He said he paid the amount and the transfer deed was finalised on paper on October 12, 2010. However, on October 15, the revenue officer, along with Tehsildar Sanaullah Khan and Girdawar Sarfaraz Khan allegedly altered the sale deed and transferred the property to Khalid Mehmood against a payment of Rs500,000. The complainant said his mutation deed was changed to temporary ownership for a certain period following the incident.

According to Raza, the investigation team found that the revenue officers had manipulated the documents, depriving Naseem of his right to ownership. None of the accused was arrested till the filing of this report.
