Emergency exits sought for public transport

Petitioner seeks court order for ensuring installation of emergency doors, fire extinguishers in all vehicles

KARACHI:

A two-judge Sindh High Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh, took up a petition seeking installation of fire extinguishers and emergency gates in passenger vehicles and setting up of emergency health centers.

Shahid Hussain Soomro, the lawyer of the petitioner Sajid Hussain Soomro, stated that recently a bus caught fire after an accident near Nooriabad industrial area on Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway in which 19 people were killed. The bus had no emergency gate and no fire extinguishers, while ambulances also reached the spot late. The petitioner sought a court order for ensuring installation of emergency doors and fire extinguishers in all passenger vehicles.
