Power projects: Punjab govt to invest Rs9 billion

The Punjab government will launch projects in the energy sector at a cost of Rs9 billion during the current fiscal year, official sources said on Wednesday. “Power generation projects of 500 megawatts (MW) will be executed with public-private partnership,” an official said. He said that these power projects would minimise the intensity of power outages, providing people with relief. He said that these projects would greatly help the industrial sector. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has already signed the agreement on a power generation project of 120MW with Chinaat Taunsa Sharif. Also, tube-wells running on solar energy are being installed across the province, the official added. In this regard Rs1.36 billion from the Annual Development Programme is being allocated, he said.
