‘Confidential data of citizens on sale for Rs350m’

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought arguments regarding a petition alleging the sale of confidential data of 1.5 million Pakistan citizens.

The petitioner, Tariq Mansoor's advocate alleged that the sale of confidential data is going on.

This information was posted on the ‘dark web.’ The data is being sold for Rs35 million.

"The data includes identity card numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and other information of mobile users".

The petitioner said that the sale of confidential material should be stopped. He said Pakistan does not have a national cyber policy.

In Pakistan, the data theft incident has happened four times in the past, the counsel added. The court called for arguments on the admissibility of the application.

The court remarked this is a matter of public interest. How can a case be filed on your behalf?

Tariq Mansoor's advocate stated that this matter has been pending since 2018. The court adjourned the hearing for six weeks.
