RDA to lease out parking plaza

Sources say civic body wants to generate more revenue

In a bid to increase its annual revenue, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to lease out a parking plaza located at the Fawara Chowk in Raza Bazaar for the next three years.

Sources in the civic agency said the contract of the only commercial parking plaza in the area will be given against an amount of over Rs38 million.

They further informed that cars, motorcycles, rickshaws, and other heavy vehicle owners will be charged on hourly, daily, and monthly basis to generate much-needed revenue.

Sources said this year, the contract has been approved for the next three years while the contract amount will be increased by 10 per cent annually.

One-time parking fee for motorcycles has been fixed at Rs30 while in case of parking for one month, the contractor will charge Rs700, sources said.

Similarly, the parking fee for cars, rickshaws, and taxis for an hour has been fixed at Rs50, for one day at Rs50, and for one month at Rs4,000, they said.

The hourly parking fee for large-size vehicles will be Rs60 while for one day and for a month, the fee has been fixed at Rs250 and Rs6500 respectively. Sources further said the contract will be awarded through an open auction on December 19. The duration of this contract runs from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2025, they said.
