Ex-DSP says falsely framed in Naqeebullah case

Claims investigator wanted him to testify against Rao Anwar

KARACHI:

Former DSP Qamar Ahmad, nominated in Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case, has said that the investigating officer SSP Abid Qaimkhani had included his name in the case for not giving a statement against former Malir SSP Rao Anwar.

“Qaimkhani held a personal grudge against me and Rao Anwar,” Qamar claimed in his testimony before the Special Court in Anti-Terrorism Complex at Karachi Central Jail on Wednesday.

The former DSP accused of killing Naqeeb and three other people in a fake encounter o January 13, 2018 in Malir, said the incident had already happened before he reached the place of encounter. He claimed that the geofencing report has been altered.

The accused said that in 2006, Abid Qaimkhani and he were posted as DSPs in Mirpurkhas range.

In the same year and he was ordered to probe involvement of policemen in a kidnapping case.

Qamar said his investigations revealed that Qaimkhani’s relatives were involved in the case. Qaimkhani was angry for not giving favour in the inquiry.

Subsequently, Qaimkhani used his influence to get him transferred to Karachi, Qamar claimed.

When the Naqueebullah’s case emerged, the then DIG Special Branch Waliullah Dal asked him to assist Qaimkhani.

He further said that Qaimkhani was under pressure from the Supreme Court for not showing any progress on the Naqeebullah case.

Qamar said Qaimkhani pushed him to become approver against the then SSP Malir Rao Anwar.

The malice of the investigating officer can be judged from the fact that even the SHO of the place where the hostages were picked up by the police was not named.

The court remarked that he is accused of murdering four people including Naqeebullah.
