Moot highlights steps taken for women’s empowerment

Participants of a moot Wednesday highlighted the efforts of government institutions toward ensuring women’s rights and pro-women legislature.

According to a statement, the seminar was organised by the Young Development Fellows (YDFs) of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) as part of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

The panelists from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and FJWU gave their presentations to students to familiarise them with the relevant legislature and platforms, stated the statement.

FJWU Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Azra Yasmeen welcomed the panelists and collaborated with the team from the planning commission to arrange the seminar, it said. NCSW Gender Advisor Dr Shaheen Arif explained pro-women constitutional guarantees and legislations that were ensured by the government of Pakistan. The moot was part of the ministry's initiative to protect women’s rights and fight discrimination and violence against women, the communique added
